How do I run a woodland carbon calculation?

Before starting: Please ensure you have onboarded your woodland data, before running a carbon calculation, either with mapping or without, otherwise your carbon calculation will not work. Please see other help documents for instructions on how to do that.

Begin from Sandy's Homepage. Then click into Sustainability on the left-hand side. Next, select Carbon, and finally Carbon Calculator. Click +Start new calculation.

Insert your parameters for this specific carbon calculation. To run a footprint for woodland, select Specific enterprises, and then check the box for Woodland. You can run a footprint for a single farm woodland only, by selecting Specific farms, and then check the box for the relevant farm(s).

In the same way, you can also select specific fields to run the carbon calculation for - choose those fields from the drop down list. Click Next to proceed.

You now need to add extra data about your woodland. Click +Add data, and then click Woodland Details to add information.

Things to consider:

  • Area - select your field(s) from this drop down list. You need to provide data for all the fields you wish to calculate your carbon footprint for.

  • Woodland type - select specific tree species, or a mixed species option.

  • Age - select the age of the trees in your woodland

  • Area - the area covered by that particular tree species.

  • You can add other tree species by clicking the icon.

  • You can replicate this data for another field by selecting the relevant area from the drop down list, under the question that asks 'Any other area(s) with the same details?'.

Ensure you check the tick box to mark the data upload as complete. Save and exit. When you're back in the calculator, ensure the woodland block is marked as Complete. Click Calculate to proceed to your carbon calculation results.
