How do I set up my different farm enterprises?

Find out how to set up Sandy's services for your arable enterprise, including adding field names and required field information.


 

Setup Arable Enterprise Data

 

 

This section of Sandy requires you to enter basic information about the fields on your farm. This can be accessed by clicking on Enterprise data under Sandy Setup in the menu on the right-hand side of your screen. To start adding your data, click Manage data for Fields.

Then select the farm you wish to add data for, by clicking on Manage data.

Data entry

 

If you have already connected your Farm Management Software to Sandy, field names and areas will already be populated. Alternatively, you can upload your data using the Excel template or enter it manually into Sandy. Detailed guidance on using the Excel template is included in a separate instruction document.

 


Data requirements

 

In this section you are asked for the following data points:

  • Field name – this needs to be spelled consistently throughout Sandy - REQUIRED

  • Field size – in hectares. This is the total field size, not the cultivated area - OPTIONAL

  • Primary land use – Arable, Biofuel, Horticulture, Other, Permanent Grassland, Temporary Grassland - REQUIRED

  • Management type – Conventional or organic - REQUIRED

  • Is the soil peat – Yes or No - REQUIRED

  • Ownership status – Owned for 3 years, Owned for less than 3 years, Rented for 3 years, Rented for less than 3 years - ENCOURAGED

 


Manually adding and editing data

 

To enter data manually into Sandy, click on Add field. To delete or edit the data for each field, click on the delete or edit icons. You can simultaneously edit the data points across multiple fields, by clicking on Edit Multiple. Detailed guidance on using this feature is provided in a separate help document.

Sandy divides data into REQUIRED DATA, ENCOURAGED DATA and OPTIONAL DATA.

 

REQUIRED DATA is essential for Sandy to function. It is up to the user whether they provide encouraged and optional data.

 

Enter or select the relevant data for the field. Click Save to confirm.

 

You can replicate field records to create new entries in Sandy, by clicking on the edit icon and then clicking on Replicate records. Detailed guidance on this is provided in a separate help document.
