How to quickly add cover crops in Sandy

Options for easily entering cover crops into Sandy when they are not on Farm Management Software (FMS)

Cover crops are an important part of any calculation in Sandy, so should be included in your input data wherever possible.

For users of Gatekeeper and Muddyboots, any cover crops need to be entered as "sequential crops". Cover crops cannot be assumed by Sandy based on drilling or seeding operations alone. If your cover crops are not set up on your FMS like this, you will need to enter this information into Sandy.

If these crops are not present on your FMS or you do not use these platforms, you can easily enter cover crops in bulk using the "Replicate Records" function in Sandy, rather than manually for each field in turn. This replicates an existing cover crop record across multiple fields.

Go to Activate Services>Carbon>Arable>Cropping and click on "Manage Data".

Select your farm, field and harvest year.

Click on "Add Crop".

Select "Cover Crop", rather than "Main Crop".

Enter the details of your cover crop for that field. If you do not know the yield for your cover crop, make sure to leave this section blank. Do not enter zero, as Sandy will assume that the cover crop has failed to establish instead. You will also need to enter a value for straw yield. We recommend that you enter zero here, unless the cover crop is being harvested.

When you have created a cover crop record for one field, you can then replicate this across other fields that also had a cover crop.

Click on "Replicate Records" and then select the record you want to replicate.

Select the values that you want to replicate and the fields and years that you want to replicate them. Click "Save" and the cover crop record will be created in these fields.
