Sandy Excel Onboarding: general guide

The general guide for managing data with Excel import functionality.

Data management methods

Sandy provides three different methods of data management:

  1. Connecting to farm management software

  2. Importing data via Excel

  3. Enter data directly in Sandy

You can use one or a combination of different methods to add and manage your data in Sandy.

For Excel onboarding, Sandy provides a specific template for each enterprise type, which you can download from Sandy setup > Select your manual onboarding method. After importing data to Sandy via Excel, please always review your data and confirm if required.

Before you begin

  • Please make sure you have the latest Excel template downloaded from Sandy. Download the latest Excel for each Enterprise from Sandy Setup > select your manual onboarding method.

  • Only upload each completed Excel file once unless it failed the first time. Uploading the same file multiple times can duplicate some of your records and impact the accuracy of results.

  • Read the onboarding info sheet at the beginning of each Excel template, as it contains important information that will help you upload your data.

  • The tabs and columns are colour coded depending on the data category.

    • Red tabs are sheets with required data points that you need to provide to activate Sandy services.

    • Blue key columns are mandatory, otherwise, the template will not populate within Sandy.

    • Red columns are required data points for the specific services written in the above row.

Do's

  • Please make sure you're consistent with farm names, enterprises, and field names across every sheet and template.

  • If you're uploading data using a farm management software, your field names in the Excel template must match those in the FMS. Otherwise, the same cells will be duplicated.

  • Fill in the blue shaded key columns; otherwise, the entire record (row) will not appear in Sandy.

  • The template’s formatting accommodates the date in the dd-mmm-yy format only (e.g. 12-Jan-22). The template will automatically change other supported formats to the above version.

  • After uploading your data, if you need to edit or delete any records, please follow the instructions below:

    • For all enterprises with manual onboarding (e.g. Arable, Permanent Grassland, SCE, Packhouse), please use Sandy's onboarding screens for editing and deleting records.

    • For all other enterprises, please use Sandy's Excel onboarding feature to download your data and make changes.

Don'ts

  • Don't upload the same Excel twice, unless it failed the first time. Uploading the same file multiple times can duplicate some of your records and impact the accuracy of results.

  • Don't hide or delete any columns for the template to upload correctly.

  • Don't manually type in any fields with drop-down menus, as the template won't upload correctly. If you wish to replicate data quickly, use the pointer in the bottom right corner of the cell to drag the data down.

  • If copying and pasting data into the Excel sheet, be extremely careful not to overwrite any cells with drop-down menus. Paste just the values - to do this, select the cell you want to paste the value in, right click and select Paste value from the paste option.

  • Sandy does not support some date formats, such as dd.mm.yyyy.

  • If you want to copy and paste the date values, use the Paste option, and select Paste values. If you change the format of the cells, the data won't be imported into Sandy.
