What general data is required in Sandy?

We require general data in the onboarding process that is used as a baseline for several modules. We do also have specific additional requirements to activate each module, but our key basic data requirements include:

  • General

    • Primary land use

    • Management type

    • Ownership status

  • Arable – cropping data by field to include

    • Field name* & size (working area)

    • Harvest Year

    • Soil type

    • Crop type & variety

    • Working area

    • Tillage method

    • Operations: nutrition/crop protection/machinery operations/seeding

    • Crop yield

    • Fertiliser (manufactured & organic) breakdown information

Please note: crop type & variety, working area, tillage method, operations, crop yield, and fertiliser breakdown categories all have their date input directly into the carbon module, through the Activate Services function of onboarding. The data is input once and will repopulate over all the other relevant modules, saving you from multiple inputs of identical data.

 

  • Pasture / grasslands

    • All fields applicable from the Arable section above (e.g. field name, soil type, crop type & variety, tillage method, operations, crop yield, fertiliser breakdown)

  • Livestock

    • Please enter your data directly within the carbon module

    • This is predominantly annual data

  • Other enterprises/aspects catered for in onboarding

    • AD (Anaerobic Digestion) units – initial set up

    • Soilless Controlled Environments: compartments/crop records & details/ management data/operations/nutrition

    • Buildings & Infrastructure – type/size/material

Important: Ensure that field names remain consistent across all data entry methods to prevent duplicate data. This is especially important when using a combination of methods — for example, farm management software, our Excel template, or manual entry.

 

Field Tagging

 

Once your general enterprise data is entered, you will be asked to tag your fields with the list of fields names imported or provided through your onboarding choice (RPA/Map software import/manual draw).

 

In this section, you are able to split, merge, tag, and untag fields.

 

 

Land Use

 

Land uses such as woodlands, ponds, arable and hedgerows can be imported to Sandy in 3 ways:

  1. RPA – If importing mapping via the RPA (Rural Payments Agency, England), Sandy will receive basic land use types, except hedgerows

  2. Mapping Software Imports – we can import shapefiles, KML and GeoJSON files from mapping software with this land use data identified

  3. Manual Allocation – it is also possible to manually allocate land use types in Sandy on a per field basis
